Sinusitis is a bacterial infection or inflammation of one or more of the sinus passages located in the bones surrounding the eyes and nose. It could be caused by a cold, flu, tonsillitis, allergies or poor mouth hygiene. The symptoms include nasal congestion, nosebleed, fatigue, headache, ear pain, pain around the eyes, a mild fever or cough. To help decongest the sinuses and relieve the inflammation, there are a number of aromatic herbs that you can use in an aromatherapy treatment.

1) Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globolus)
The major constituent in eucalyptus leaves is a volatile oil known as Eucalyptol (1,8-cineol) which normally present at 70% from the total compound in the oil. Eucalyptus oil has Antibacterial properties, cough suppressant, expectorant, nasal decongestant and a respiratory anti-inflammatory
2) Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Peppermint has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to soothe mucus membranes, while the Menthol in peppermint oil acts as an expectorant providing temporary quick relief from nasal congestion and sinus pain.

Again, the major compound in treating sinusitis is 1,8 cineol which present in about 30% in romseary oil and camphor around 12%. The scent of the oil has been shown to provide relief from throat congestion and its antiseptic properties makes it useful in treating respiratory allergies, sinusitis, colds, sore throat, and the flu.
